How much does it cost to have small airplane (like a C172) re-upholstered inside?
New carpeting, and new seat upholstery (vinyl or fake leather)?? Ballpark cost??
Can a lot of it be done as DIY or does this require a pro with A&P certs?
Also, what about interior plastic trim?
Most small planes can have leather seats for around $500/seat. The rear bench will be around 600-700.
Carpets (can be ordered in sets and done by the pilot) are around $800, done by a shop around $1200.
Side panels are also around $800-1000, the headliner will run around 800-900. The plastics can be redone or replaced usually for a 172 they run around 400-500. The owner can do all the work if he knows how BUT all materials used must be certified. Kits can be ordered. A log book entry must be done.
In most cases a four place complete interior installed (depending on materials) will be near 5000 if done by a shop. You can spend more if you want a really nice custom interior, I know one that had a 9000 tab had all the fixtures done in brass, all the seats were done in two tone leather, carpet was really thick wool as were the side panels and headliner. The tab included full side bottom and top noise treatment.
--Edit--
I just noticed Mena Ak has one on ebay for $3600 complete! Full leather for a 172/182, new carpet, side panels, headliner. YOU ship the parts, you install them.
Removing seats is easy, side panels and carpet, not too bad. Correctly replacing a headliner --- priceless and painful.
