Do you think this could be black mould?
I rent in FL. Whenever it rains really hard, especially with high winds(hurricane season), the rain leaks through my front door through little cracks(just drips a little) and the rain also leaks in underneath the door. It makes the carpeting inside of the door get completely soaked. When this happens, I try to soak up the water with old towels and let it air dry.
Lately, these last few months, I've been having recurring breathing problems. Bronchitis, chest infections, coughing, asthma, etc...
Do you think there could be mold growing by the front door under the carpeting, and that's what's causing my sudden breathing problems?
I'm kind of scared to rip up the carpet to look underneath for mold because I rent and I don't want to damage something.
Do they sell any type of mold testing kits that would detect mold in this situation?
I have a friend who recently got married and moved into an old house with her husband. She was experiencing shortness of breath and two or three doctors passed it off as anxiety. The thing is, she was happier than she'd ever been, and the last doctor she saw finally diagnosed it as black mold. They're having their house tested - there are home kits, but I wouldn't recommend them - I'd get it tested by professionals who have the equipment to keep it out of their lungs. If you don't have the money (I mean, really don't have it, not don't want to spend it), a home test is certainly better than nothing.
