Human Series 3d
Which Should I buy/get, 3D Studio Max (3DS) or Maya?

If I wanted to make a short mini series with human characters (realistic like Final Fantasy, NOT Toy Story looking stuff), should I get 3DS Max or Maya. And don't tell me it's going to be EXTREMELY hard to do. I know that. But which will look the best?

I have heard that Maya can simulate muscles and stuff, and that it was used in Beowulf.

But I have seen what Max can do, and I haven't seen any examples of Maya in animation.

Which is Better for what I am wanting to do!!!

Maya doesn't "simulate muscle". It allows you to build skeleton-based skin deformation systems that can look like muscle (There's a big difference between the two in terms of how much work is required from you).
Maya can simulate liquids and cloth which can give you nice secondary motions (so does 3ds max, in the latest versions).
Maya is the industry standard for theatrical animation, but one of the main reasons for that is that it's more suitable for large teams.
If you're going to do something by yourself and don't have any prior experience, I suggest using Corel Poser, which will save you a lot of the frustration of modeling and rigging).

Thinking that making realistic character animation movie with Maya/3ds max alone and without extensive prior experience is "Extremely hard" is a fallacy. It's downright impossible.
Just so you have some proportions - a professional animator usually produces 2-3 seconds of animation per day.
