Is there any musical piece that uses the last key of the piano, I mean, the 88th one?
I've always thought about that...
I know that if it's there, it must have a use. But is there a piece that uses this? If so, which one is ti.
Same with the first key
The low a is used in the Grieg concerto, among many, many other pieces (Prokofiev 6th sonata) The high c is used less often. It became a part of the piano more recently (many late 19th century pianos only go to the top a). I think you can find top c in the third Prokofiev concerto, but I'm not sure.
Some Bösendorfer pianos have notes lower than the low A. (Some go down to the F, others go all the way to the low C)
There have been a few 20th century works that use these low notes.
As far as the high note sounding ugly, if you've got a good instrument well in tune, it can sound beautiful.
