What minerals or rocks make up these objects?
I need to know which minerals or rocks make up the following objects:
a metal wall, a sink, metal pots/pans, a tooth, shingles, bricks, cement, a battery, stuff in a furnace, concrete, a glass jar, metal utensils, talcum powder, string, thermometer, root beer, borax soap, camera film, a plane, a gravestone, the capital building, a skyscraper and glasses. PLEASE HELP!
Ok, I can help you with some of these.
metal wall - usually it's made of stainless steel, which is an alloy consisting mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.2% and 2.14% by weight
a sink - aluminium and stainless steel
metal pots/pans - cast iron, but nowadays mostly aluminium and stainless steel
a tooth - hydroxyapatite, which is a crystalline calcium phosphate
glass - silica or silicon dioxide
brick - clay (phyllosilicates), shale (same as clay), soft slate (quartz and muscovite or illite, often along with biotite, chlorite, hematite, and pyrite along with, less frequently, apatite, graphite, kaolin, magnetite, tourmaline, or zircon as well as feldspar), and calcium silicate
shingles - wood or ceramic tiles
cement - limestone with small quantities of other materials (such as clay)
battery - depends on what kind of battery (lithium, zinc, carbon, manganese oxide, silver oxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium chloride, zinc chloride, etc)
concrete - composed of cement as well as other materials such as fly ash and slag cement, aggregate (generally a coarse aggregate such as gravel, limestone, or granite, plus a fine aggregate such as sand), water, and chemical admixtures.
talcum powder - hydrated magnesium silicate
string - depends on what type (cotton, rubber, plastic, etc)
thermometer - glass and mercury
